I realized that it's been almost a year since I posted my last desktop. Not much has changed, even though I've installed latest Ubuntu and actually been swapping window manager and desktop environments around.
In the end, I still landed back on Windowmaker because, well, Windowmaker is awesome. I still have the same old dockapps, except I've swapped cputnik for three instances of wmmon - blinkety-blink deluxe!
Another addition is a modified version of docker, which now has a nice frame and if forced in Windowmaker mode. I plan to add some more features to this app, but I need to brush up on my C first.
